Dextron II or Dextron III
Just to clarify somehting for me, my 1988 owners manual says to use Dex II but now the common type seems to be Dex III...Is Dextron III better to use to should I stick with the older Dex II type...(I'm assuming that Dextron III came out later and is what is CURRENTLY recommended for our transmisisons......Is this assumption correct?) Thanks

In 1988 there was no such thing as Dexron III as there also was no more Dexron (I) at the time. The number is the upgrade. III is the current standard until a demand for an upgrade to Dexron IV. That's why you can't find Dexron II any more. All higher grades are backward compatible for older vehicles.
It doesn't matter how you pronouce it but there is no T in Dexron.
