checking U-joints?

Is there a good way to check your u-joints? If you get under the car and try to wiggle the drive shaft will that do it? Another question is do they need lubed? I didn't see a zerk.

thanks for the help,
phil

They need lubed. There is a zerk. Because of the tight fit, the fitting on my grease gun won't work. I have to take it to a service station.

only aftermarket replacement ones have a zerk fitting, the factory ones that were origanally installed were sealed and pre-lubed

Now I think about it, 84Z, you're correct--and mine are after market

Take the shaft out to grease it, or get a needle adapter for your grease gun.

Can someone answer the question of how you can tell if the are worn out?

Usually you can inspect them visually for any slack as you rotate the shaft by hand. U-joints are sort of like wheel bearings in that they're cheap enough that if you have any doubt as to whether they're worn or not, they should just be replaced.
