Holy Crap!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

just a little info for those of you who are taking your cars out for the ifrst time this season, i recently finshed installing my new limted slip, so i have been driving it quiet a bit. started hearing a metalic clicking type noise at first i thought it was a tranny cooler lines vibrating against the starter, but tonight i decided to investigate further... i just about crapped myself when i took off my inspection cover.... my flexplaste was cracked in about 5 to 6 places for a total of about 65 to 70 precent of the total circumfrence . so needless to say the tranny is out and the new flexplate is on and torqued and i will finish it up in the morning. that was a close one wheeewwwwwww

yep, broken one of those before!

i was on my way to my g/f's house from Homecoming. it was the first night out in the car after rebuilding the motor. i was happy as a pig in mud to have the car out, but whenever i broke the flexplate, i bought shat myself! anyhow, the car was back together in a day! i'll be doing an eaton posi install next weekend, i'll be sure to look under the front end of the car to inspect any and all bolts that may have loosened up. that was what caused mine to break. the tranny bellhousing bolts managed to loosen themselves up!

You are lucky. Back when my 84 was still under warrenty the tranny went and the dealer had to rebuild it 4 times before they got it right. Well, sorta right.

The last time the tranny tech forgot to tighten the tq converter bolts so when they came out far enough the flex plate shattered and broke the whole top off the tranny. I had it back less than a day and they still tried some how to blame it on me. I was crusing on the highway at an even speed just a tad over the speed limit when it happened. The last one took 3 weeks for them to fix.

They welded the case back together and some how it was not ligned up right. They had to compress the case to get it to bolt up to the engine. Of course that throws everything out of line so a couple of years later, it blew out the pump from being out of line with the converter. Warrenty was long gone by then. Bastards!

well its all back together while i was in there i replaced the flexplate bolts with ARP and locktite and replaced my tranny mount with an energy suspension , and found a better way to run my shifter cable to my mega shifter, drives and runs like a new car nice and smooth on the highway at 70-75 and purs at idle well purs like a cat with a big cam
