Pistol grip shifter? What would that have to do with the TV cable?

The TV cable goes to the throttle arm on the carburetor or throttle body. It doesn't go anywhere near the shifter.

That sounds like the park lock cable, it prevents you from pushing the shifter button to take the shifter out of park without the ignition turned on. If your new shifter doesn't have a provision for it, you can ignore it.
