700R4 rebuild - need those that have done this themselves
I start a rebuild on a 1985 700R4 from an IROC-Z on the 16th of May. I have watched the 1 1/2 hour video produced by Technical Videos and have the rebuild manual for it also. I am ordering the parts this weekend and had a few questions about the rebuild kits for $90 and those that are $250. The more expensive rebuild kits have Kevlar band and the Alto clutch packs - is this really necessary for my Iroc that makes very little power from the carb'd 305 in it? What is the deal with adding the .500 boost valve and a corvette servo, once again is this worth it and what will it do for me? I appreciate any insight from any of you who have ever tackled this project or are in the business of rebuilds.

have you ever taken one of these apart before? the only tools you will really need are the basics, plus a magnetic wand, a clutch spring compressing tool, snap ring pliers, a manuel and some patience.
My thoughts are, what do you plan on doing to your car in the line of performance add-ons, and that is what you want to put in, of course your budget will dictate how far you can go, if you put in top quality parts then i'd suggest the same for a convertor from trusted source.
These are very simple to gut.

Check out my website, I did a how-to properly prep your 700R4 on it.

Just click on the link leading to the transmission page, the front page is sort of a parts-for-sale page, pay no heed to that.
