Shifter bracket on pan, 700R4

I helpeda friend diagnose why his car was stuck in reverse. I was looking for the cable being totally disconnected off of hte arnature, but it was still there. Then I spot that the bracket that holds the cable still is dangling. Two bolts missing from the transmission pan, and the two holes on the bracket are just right for lining up with the missing bolt holes. I 'stole' the two bolts adjacent to the spot where the bracket goes, and stuck it in place. I also discovered that all the tranny bolts were only finger-tight. I snugged them down, but I didn't have a torque wrench and I had no clue what the torque is supposed to be.

Anyone else run into this problem before, with the 700R4?

The bolts for the cable bracket are actually longer than the rest, I don't have the size handy but I could get it later. The torque spec isn't much, similar to what you'd use on a valve cover or oil pan.

Oh, okay, thanks! I'll make sure to help him out and I'll pull the same exact bolts that were originally missing, and put the ones I scavanged back into their original locations. While I'm at it, I'll check for leaks - it would suck to have caused the gasket to fail, but a transmission filter change would probably be a good idea anyway.

Transmission filters come with gaskets usually.
