Torque converter balanced?
Has anyone ever had to have their torque converter balanced? I went cheap and bought a P.O.S. B&M torque converter and it isn't balanced right. I can feel the unbalance when the engine starts up. I was wondering if a machine shop would offer these services? Anyone have any experience in this area?

They should be balanced right from where they are rebuilt. From what I hear, none are ever made from new unless you buy a new car.
Most shops could not balance that. If you have a tq converter rebuilder near by then you would be in luck.
Did you contact B&M? What did they say?

I called summit tonight but they suggested calling B&M too. I won't be able to call them until Monday morning. I bought the converter over a year ago from summit and it sat on my shelf until I got my trannie this year and now the warranty is out on it. Go figure.

I was always told that as long as the crank/flexplate are balanced ok, it doesn't matter- that the fluid in the torque convertor has a dampening/balancing effect on the TC. Not sure if that's true or not ... ?

I talked to B&M today and they said that they would replace the converter. He said the converters are balanced neutrally. He also said it is rare but sometimes they do have some that are not balanced right. So I guess we will see when I put the new one in. It has to be something with the converter because the stock one does not do that. I don't have a problem until I hook up the new converter.
