buying a used posi-unit off e-bay?

There are a BUNCH of listings for 3.42 gears and posi units from stock 4th gens. That are going for very cheap.

I am really tempted to order one. I NEED posi but it will take me awhile to get the cash together for a new auburn and new gears.

What do you think the chances of the unit being shot? I am tempted to get one but I was wondering how long a stock 4th gen posi could even last.

 

I'd check the user rating and ask the person over the phone what condition they're in. Personally if they sounded like they were lieing or weren't sure, i wouldn't buy them.

 

Let the price decide. Do not spend more than you could afford to lose if it is bad. I bought a used corvette rear complete for 100 bucks. It is worth $500 normally. I took a chance and it paid off. In my case it was a perfect low milage unit. I got lucky, maybe you can too.
