please i need opinions

i installed an auburn limited slip in my car about 500 miles ago i reused the stock 373's (GM) checked backlash and pattern all was fine backlash .008 to .010. well noticed the other day i can hear a slight whine/ groan at about 60-70 but it is pretty faint i have to turn my head and listen to hear it and only if windows are up. only between those speeds, above or below its ok.

pulled the cover and rechacked backlash still .010 fluid looked clean refilled and tested still there. this noise is almost like tire noise but not quite. should i be concerned?? the only thing i noticed was that on the toe side edge of the ring gear there was a black line at a 65 degree angle to the top of the tooth. i could not feel and indentation in the face of the teeth just like a stain??didn;t even look like it was in the pattern area??? please someone help

Did you check your carrier/side bearing preload?

You should check your tires (and anything else simple) anyway. Maybe swap the fronts to the back or put on a spare set or something.

I wouldn't worry about anything on the toe edge.

i do have tire noise but i think this is seperate, which side is heel or toe i think i might have mixed them up i meant the edge that would be faceing out ward at you with the diff cover off think that might actually be heel ??? for preload i just reinstalled the stock fat shims with .004 on the right side( to tighten backlash from .012 to my final figure of .008-.010) is that incorrect ???

Toe is the internal edge. As long as the wear isn't in the center (the correct contact pattern area) it shouldn't be a problem. Especially if you can't feel anything.

If you reused the original shims, your side bearing preload would be the same. You can still check it if you want to pull the axles and driveshaft.

Adding more shim on the right side will increase backlash. Adding to the left will decrease backlash.

You said the pattern checked out fine, right?

i like backlash no more than .008 but .010 is far from that. i'd suspect tire noise.
