I can't find the answer anywhere

Short and sweet..

Did any 1989 RS Camaros come with a posi? My dad and I were messing around in a parking lot tonight, I did a power brake and both tires were smoking. When i did it with my 85, only one did. Thanks guys.

Maybe one in a thousand. Maybe.

For all practical purposes, no.

That doesn't mean it doesn't have one; people put them into cars that didn't have them all the time.

That "2 tires" crap also doesn't mean that it has a posi. It is not a valid "go/no-go" test. The only way to know for sure is to take off the cover and look.

I had an old GM tech manual(not from a thirdgen...just a genral tech manual) and it gave a test to see if the posi worked properly, if I remember correctly it had you put the trans in NEUTRAL and raise one side of the car and use a bar-style toruqe qrench to turn the axel, a WORKING posi should take at least a certin amount of torque to turn (I belive it was 50 ft-lbs...but don't quote me on that), if it takes more than that it's good to go, if it takes less the posi is bad and if it takes none, the posi is really bad or it dosen't have one, also all posi cars came with a metal tag on the cover, saying use limited slip diff fluid only, the only problem is that some mechanics did not put the tag back on, or it could have rusted off. just my 0.02
