I also had my tranny rebuilt. THe guy who did it is a well known drag car tranny builder. I had a transgo kit put in and he told me he made everything heavy duty inside...put in 8 clutches instead of the stock 5, kevlar bands, harden pump rings, red friction something, kolene steels... I have no idea what that means but he talked the talk. told me that when I get it back together to bring it up to him and he will get the "govners" where I want them.

the best part of it I was only charged $475 with a 12 month warranty and he knew I was going to run it hard on the street/strip and also gonna run NOS...

That's almost suspiciously cheap for what you got. But then again, I'm a cynic.

yeah I know what you mean but the guy has a good reputation so I trusted him. I had found another that would have done about the same job and he was $600 but as soon as I said "transgo" he was like, wha? So I went elsewhere and then people started jumping in the $1200 range but as soon as I said street/strip they would not warranty anything, called it "abuse"

You gotta remember down here in the south people do great work for cheap. Thats just the way it is in this part of the US....southern boys!

How much did the stall run you? BTW where did you purchase it from?

Make sure you get a good transmission cooler if it's gonna be street driven. It's amazing how much quicker the engine revs up with a smaller converter on it.

Wow.. thats super cheap. However, with those kevlar bands... have fun with your jarring 1-2 shift even at low rpm. It gets pretty annoying on a daily.

Ask me how I know :P

And who might this be? I think I am in the market for a new trans, and I'd really only like to spend enough to get it on the road again and $625 for a NEW one is a great price. Care to divulge who and where you got this from?

mine has kevlar bands, but doens't shift hard at all unless i'm on it...

of course, my converter may be taking alot of that hit outta it since it's around a 2400stall...

Yep, I have kevlar bands in my rebuilt 700 too. It's not bad under casual driving. It's pretty snappy if I leave from a stop at over half throttle though.

(I've got a 2200 holeshot)

Yup, mine was nice and smooth with the Vigilante TC...but the guy I sold it to ran a stock TC and said it was giving him fits shifting hard.

well I got it all in.

Mine doesnt shift hard at all its nice and smooth but it fast as hell into 2nd gear, theres no slack, lag or nothing...Im thinking that because I have about 1.5 quarts to much in fluid its keeping it from even shifting hard at WOT...so im draining the excess fluid as we speak.

I can tell you what though, the different shifting and the 2800 stall is gonna take some getting used to. to me Im thinking it screwed up but it cant be, its just night and day from my old tranny and stock verter. It shifts so much different.

well I was 2.25 quarts to much. damn!......and I had put a total of 10 quarts when I finshed with the install. MidWest told me that he had the verter fill so I didnt need to put any in there. SO whatever was in the converter, I only had to put 7.75 quarts in. Oh well I guess all trannys are different.
