Busted Trany

Hey guys, baiscly I want to know the cheapst way to fix my 700-r4. Its been slipping real bad, and hardly ever goes into 4th, for the past several months, I dont want to put alot of money into it because the car is pretty much crap, but it would be less crappy if the darn thing would shift right. I have a trany a guy gave me, he said it was a 350 but it dosnt look at all like one, is there anyway to identify it to see if I could swap that in?

Thanks for the help

For the 700r4 you could replace the fluid, and try some trans x, but if 4th is slipping real bad, the band could be worn down to nothing. Is second gear really soft too? The Turbo 350 is pretty easy to identify, but you should get the numbers off the trans and do a search online, see if it really is a 350, not a 250 or one of the other lesser transmissions. The main problem with the Th350 is you still need a way to mount the torque arm to the rear of the transmission, and the driveshaft length will be different. I found a 700r4 in the local paper here for $200 that lasted for 2 years. It would be a direct swap and fairly cheap.
