200R4 or 700R4
firstly i apologise if i have posted this in the wrong section. i have a 1983 Z28 camaro with L48 conversion engine. im trying to figure out if it has the 200r4 or the 700r4 transmission in it. I think that from the factory it would have had the 200r4 but seeing as its had the engine conversion im thinking that the tranny might have been changed as well. is there a difference in apperance in the boxes ?. has anyone got any pics of either transmission so i can determine what mine is. many thx

The 200-4R was only used in the TTA. All other 4 speed automatics are 700R4s. Your car may have come with the TH200C 3 speed automatic.

TTA= Turbo Trans Am, the one with the 3.8 turbo from the GN. Kinda rare.
200C = chumpy, weak 3-speed automatic with lockup torque converter. If your motor is anything other than stock, you probably would want to replace it. If your car have overdrive, it most likely has a 700R4.

Look at the shape of the tranny oil pan. Then search on this website of google gm transmission identification.
