I am sure they are made for the lsX series engines. I highly doubt they will ever make one for old school SBC's like ours.

since they are for the LSx engines, you can bolt them straight up to ours... you're just missing one bellhousing bolt compared to a SBC housing, because it would hit the #8 cyl on a genIII

the hardest part would be the electronics to run the trans. but aftermarket solutions are out there.. you can also run a gen III computer, clear the non engine DTCs and feed it the sensors it needs for shifting.

you can.. you just need an adapter for the bell housing, cut the floor further back ect.. basically the LT1 is better suited for the job because of less fabrication work, plus its cheaper..

you can do anything you want, as long as you have $$$$

the reason you can't use T-56 from a LSX on our engines is the input shaft is a diffrent legnth, because the crank mounting point is in a diffrent locataoin, it's only like 5/8" diffrance and I'm sure the'll make an adapter t/c for the new 6- speed auto to bolt in.

because of the input shaft. and clutch issues.
the CRANK bolt pattern is diffrent. so no LS1 flywheel. no LS1 clutch.

BUUUUT, the converter bolt pattern is the same... so bolt a flexplate on, then the trans... look to the 1000s of hotrods with electric shifted trans out there

thats also why i can stick any chevy TH350, TH400, 700R4, 200....(well, you get the idea).... behind my LS1.

When McLeod introduced the modular bellhousing they made it possible to bolt any stick trans to any engine. You can easily use an LS1 T56 on a regular SBC without any other adpaters, just the McLeod parts, which are conveniently SFI certified as well.

You could use this system to bolt a T56 from a Viper to a 390 Ford FE motor, or go the other way and use a Chrysler A883 4-speed behind a 4-cam 4.6, or an LS1 for that matter. Check out the chart they have that shows all the combinations. It's utterly amazing.

of course, i should point out that the McLeod setup costs $$$$$$....

and you see no gain compared to the bolt in LT1 trans... heck, some consider the LT1 M6 stronger then the LS1 one... (same design, diffrent castings and assembly factorys)

so for SBC thats why the LT1 trans is prefered... nothing is impossible, but the LS1 6spd isnt your best option.. thats why very very very few people on here have done it.. and noone reccomends it.

FYI, I wasn't advocating using an LS1 T56. The LT1 T56 is definately a better choice. It's a near bolt in for one. That was what led me to go the LT1 T56 route. I just wanted to confirm that it could be done in the event someone stumbled upon a dirt cheap LS1 T56.

The LT1 T56s were also built by Borg/Warner before they sold their transmission operation to TTC (Transmission Technologies Corporation, which manufacture the Tremec line as well). Now the TTC T56s are built in Mexico instead of the USA.
