Axle/Gears: 2.73
non posi 2.73 to posi 3.42
should this setup work ok? posi and 3.42 gears. right now i have a stock non posi 2.73 rear should this work ok to changed the guts and what other thing do i need befor i take it to a shop? and how much do you think it would cost for a shop to install these for me?

Yes it will work, eventually.
You will need a ring gear spacer. You can get one from www.drivetrainspecialists.com but you'll have to call, it's not on their page any more.
You will find that buying that unit, plus a ring gear spacer, will cost more than buying the right thing in the first place.
You'll need a "gear swap kit", which is about $100. Has bearings, shims, spacers, etc.
That's an Auburn factory take-out from about a 96 or 97 LT1 car. Not a very good unit. I've already had one of those fry in my own car.
It has 28-spline side gears. If you have a 88 car, you have 26-spline axles. That will not work. You will also need axles. I'd suggest Superior EV10-4 axles; they're made stronger than custom axles, and since you're duplicating a stock (90-92) axle configuration, you don't need "custom" (Moser or the like) axles anyway. They're about $250 a pair.
Expect to pay about $250-350 in labor to make this swap.

ok so i need to find a differant posi and buy a gear swap kit then will i be ready to take it to a shop? oh and my 1988 formula lo3 with 2.73 gears has 26 spline axels? thanks for the help
