I just had my 700R4 rebuilt to bolt to the back of my /87 5.7 TPI
They used a “Beast” shell, raybestos bands and 3-4 clutches, Superior HP shift kit, Superior K-017 hydraulic lock-up, new oversized trans cooler etc. (The K-017 eliminates the need for a computer lock-up or wired switch)
The transmission works very well, but I am having a bit of a hard time setting up the cable adjustment. If I adjust the cable too far out it will not down shift from 2nd to 1st, and if I adjust it in enough to down shift into 1st from 2nd it will not up shift on full throttle until I hit like 5500 RPM.
What RPM should a 700R4 be shifting at on full throttle runs and still be able to down shift from 2nd to 1st with the gas pedal only?

You adjust the TV cable so that it is all the way out at full throttle. You don't adjust the TV cable to change the shift points - wherever it shifts with the TV cable properly adjusted is where it shifts.
You modify the govenor to adjust the shift RPMs.

I had a heck of a time adjusting my b&m megashifter to work right with my 700r4. I had trouble getting it to go into park or 1st consistantly.
But now with my th350 it goes in very easy. I didn't even have to readjust it.

Thanks, I did not know that, I thought the cable ajustment was for shifts also.
How is the govenor adjusted? do I drop the pan? Is it in the valve body?
Lastly does the shift kit change the RPM of the shifts? or does it just make it shift like it should?
