Which Converter???
Hey ya'll.
I'm looking for a converter for my Chevy.
It's a 305 SBC, approx 250-300Hp, with a TH350 behind it.
So now what I should look for? Which stall speed? 1600-1800?
I don't wanna spend too much money on it, but also got a good one. So no no-name stuff. A thought about B&M Holeshot, or maybe something from TCI.
Any suggestions?
Thx
Hawk

Depends on what you are doing with it. As long as you go for name brand converter, they will cost you about the same. B&M is good, as is TCI, but what you really need to know is the stall speed. What are you doing with the car? If you want it to be easily streetable, I would suggest under a 2000 RPM stall. The intention of the higher stall is to get the engine into its power range before the tranny takes off for racing, but for street it is usually best to have a lower stall so the car moves more or less immeaditly after you depress the pedal. I would go for a 1800 stall for all around performance, and with the TCI if you can find it. Many shops will also build a durable converter if you cannot locate one (Im sure you can if you look) for around 300-500.

Thanks for your reply.
I wanna use the car just for fun. Once or twice a week, not as a daily driver. And I wanna have a good accleration.
It's some kind of a saturday night racer

I have a b&m tork master 2400 and it stalls higher than 2400. More like 2800. It feels like poo now because I have 2.73s gears but I think it will run much better once I get the 3,73s in there.
The tork master series are cheap. I think I paid 150$ for mine.

Figure the higher your stall is, the harder the car will launch off the line, but you also will have some problems like decreaced mileage and possibly hotter operating temps inside the tranny when used in stop and go traffic. Id still stay aound the 2000 RPM range just for the driveability.
