700R4 Rebuild Questions

I am going to rebuild my 700R4 in a couple weeks and was not sure if I should go with a stock rebuild or a TCI or B&M kit.

To my understanding the TCI and B&M's come with all the performance parts which provide hard shifts and handle a good amount of power.

My motor is a fresh 350TPI that is .030" over. Mods are a 2.02/1.60 083 heads, CompCam, AFPR and some prom tuning. The motor is a little peepy but nothing off the charts. I am not really interested in the hard shifts all the time.

My thought is a stock rebuild with a B&M shift kit for an occasional 1st to 2nd gear chirp and maybe a 2500 stall max. This way the tranny still shifts smooth.

I may be way off the ball on this one. Any input is greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

The tranny is a 700R4 in an 87 IROC

Not sure if it technically is a 4L60 or 4L60E to be honest.

87 would make it a 4l60 the E at the end of it started around 88 or so and it is an electronic controlled

I think with your engine combo that just a basic rebuild combined with a upgraded servo, and shift kit would make your car shift firm and perform nicely and I think you have that kind of shift that you are after.

You may want to consider though how much you plan to run this combo because your trans will shift fine but if you think that you need more power out of your engine your trans is not going to be up to this task without further mods. I think I would weigh all of the options out and I might go with a fully built transmission because l8ter on your mght decide to go with a engine that has been built more then the one your useing.
