Engine: L98/LT1
Transmission: 700R-4/T-56
Axle/Gears: 3.42/4.10
unknown connector
I looked underneath my '89 camaro today and saw a 2-wire weatherpack connector right below the transmission. I looked everywhere but I could not find where it went. My car isn't throwing any codes and it seems to run fine. The wires were purple and yellow and the trans is a 700R4. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

Actually that doesn't make much sense either, the starter safety switch on a T5 is on the clutch pedal. You're sure they're yellow and purple?

Hmmm, puzzling.
And correct, the starter safety switch wires are under the dash for mauals and on the shifter for automatics. Never under the car.

Everything is original and I looked high and low and found nothing. The connector is on the same bundle as another connector that plugs into the transmission except the other one is white and it has four wires. I don't know what to think.

If it is in the same wire bundle, it would point to the VSS connector. Hopefully somebody with more knowledge will chime in and tell us whether the 1989 Camaro came with VSS or not.

it would be more likely that the harness was damaged at one time and replaced with the one you have now. now I don't know if a bird eng. harness would just plug in the camaro but, if it does then that is very likely what happened. or perhaps the company that produces the harnesses for gm made a goof and included the extra wiring on yours
(I know now at least they make them over sea and they have so many mistakes it is a common practice to have workers on the ships re-working the harnesses on there way to the us )

That's what I thought originally but didn't they put the VSS in Camaro's in 1990? The Birds had it earlier but 1989 Camaro should still have a mechanical speedo.
I couldn't tell you when the Firebirds switched over.

Do the backup (reverse) lights work? It could be that the Firebird's and Camaro's used the same harness. Which would make it the VSS connector on a Firebird.
