Rear Axle Question??

I am doing an engine swap on a 88 firebird V6
I have a 83' transam donor car. I want the rear disc brakes from the T/A. Some say the ratio is more disirable on the V6 rear end. Should I take the brakes off or take the whole axle from the T/A?

what are the specific axle ratios? the t/a will "likely" have posi and the v6 "likely" won't

I would find out what axle ratio they both have befor anything

What he said. But most likely you'll want the TA axle, 1) disc brakes 2)maybe posi 3)may also have same gears, who knows.

you can check out the numbers on the pass axl housing, on the front right by the pumpkin. or you can just take the cover off the rear end. you will see the posi and you can count the teeth on the gears.

like 89 said pull the cover most even have the numbers on the gears stamped like (_ _ : _ _) well there will be numbers in there but, you get the idea just devide them and you will get ratio

The V6 will have a 3.42 open rear end.
