Loud Bang Coming From Underneath Car in Back or Middle

While I was exiting an on ramp turning right the other day, I hear this loud bang come from under the car. It sounded as if it was towards the back or middle. I wasn't pushing the limits of my car, nor was I driving like a grandma. On the rough road the car keeps going bang bang as if the driveshaft is scraping the ground every time I go over a bump. I pull over, and see nothing wrong underneath. I begin to drive slowly, and there are no noises. I put the car in first around 10-15 miles an hour, and give it 3/4 throttle, and hear the same noise. I drive back down the bumpy road and the noise is still there over every bump. It's so violent it bounces my parking brake lever up, however the cable is disconnected.

I put the car on ramps, and see nothing obviously wrong. Mecham TAs came with a steel wire that held the rear end to the rear subframe so the springs don't fall out when the cars on the lift. I noticed both were broken, they looked as if they rusted over time, not as if they snapped recently.

One thought is that the tranny mount could be broken, but I've never had that happen before, nor do I know what that is supposed to sound like. Any idea on what the noise is?

yea, I had one gho south and it pounded pretty good.. Another thing to check is the torque arm mount.. that can cause a pretty loud bang over bumps and such when that is gone too... another thing is check all your exaust hangers... if any of them are rotteds out, destroyed, missing. ect.. it can cause a consistant banging sound

Yep, tranny mount.

do a search here for tranny mount repair. it's not hard, as long as your bolts don't give you many issues (I had to drill out 1, that took longer than the actual mount swap)

My guess is torque arm. I had an 87 Iroc that the torque bolts fell out off the tail shaft. Every time I accelerated it would the tunnel.

I just replaced the tranny mount. The nut that holds it to the crossmember was just spinning the bolt, so I had to jack up the tranny and pull the rubber off, then use a clamp the hold the bolt. The mount had a few tears in it, so I hope that's the problem.

I look like a caveman right now, I didn't wear a shirt because of the heat, and the dirt when everywhere. I'll show the pic when it gets developed.

bettin that's it

anyway, I think we've all had the "caveman" look workin on our rides.

My "car-fixin" clothes are an old pair of jeans, some worn out old boots and a torn up tee. no matter how much I wash them, they're stained black from oil and grease...

best way to stain some clothes is with auto tranny fluid... once that is in you would be lucky if you even got rid of the smell lol.. stuff is persistant, 10 washes and the stain is still dark as ever and the smell is just as strong..

Try getting trans fluid or gear lube in your hair... that's the worst.
