torque converter selection th350
Hello I need some help with torque converters...
Does anyone know how much of a benefit a 10" converter is compaired to a 12"? In theory I see that it may be easier for a 10" to reach it's stall speed than for a 12" with the same stall to reach it's stall speed, because it doesn't have to move as much fin mass. My question is how much of a benefit is that and where would I see it (under full throttle, top end, mid...)?
My set up is as follows:
-383 stroker
-dart platinum heads
-roller cam w/236 intake 242 exhaust @.050 lift is .520 intake and .540 exhaust
-speed demon 750
-3.73 gears
-th350
-10:1 comp ratio
this is a street/strip car that gets driven on the street a lot during summer
Suggestions?

The 2 brands I've personally run are the Jegster and TCI convertor, both with great results as far as durability and repeatability at the track, with great street manners. Both were 10" units, same as what I have now a 10" TCI.
You are correct, you will be quicker/faster with a smaller convertor since it's less mass to move it free up some ponies on the engine and helps things move more effeicently.
Proven brands to run: TCI, BTE, ATI, Coan. There are others out there that are probably just as good, but I'm surrounded by racers all summer and get the scoop on literally every part out there, plus I always look to the guys winding up on top at the end of the night, since if their stuff works it must be good-as it gets beat on a hellava lot more than what the cometition's does since they're on the trailer
But being how mine is set-up for street/strip and it does get driven quite a bit, I like to push my junk to the max, so far watching/listening to others has more than paid for itself with no down time and no maintainence

I had 2 buddies running Boss hog convertors, both had pretty good luck with them. Lil loose on the bottom side, meaning more heat build up as a result of slippage, but other than that they worked just fine.
Not my cup of tea since, but my car is purpose built to win money first and foremost, then the street car personality comes a very close second. Like I said, I look and listen to alot of racers and gear heads, form my own opinions and buy what I think will work best for me, every car is different and like different things. I'd prersonally never buy a Boss Hog convertor, but that's my opinion.
