Autometer speedo sending unit fit?

Hope this is the right board to post this...
I purchased the Covans - Autometer gauge cluster a while back and bought the Autometer electronic speedometer sending unit locally.
The sender has never really quite fit my T5 properly.
Anybody out there have this setup and did you have problems with the sender?

I have the Covans cluster and this sender I have a 700R4 though, but it should fit any GM tranny from what I understand.

I used to have a 700R4 in this car before I swapped to the T5, I had the same problem, the threads line up just fine but the "extension" beyond the threaded area of the speedo gear will not seat properly inside the new sender.
I'll try to attach a photo.
