transmission grinds going into 3rd
my 1989 camaro 305 5 speed makes a grinding noise unless you double clutch it into third sometimes second???

3/4 slider could be damaged, which probably means the engament teeth are damaged on 3rd gear too. The synchro ring is probably fine. With symptoms like this usually the slider of gear are the culprit. This comes from too many shifts where the slider didn't fully grab the enagement teeth on the gear. Then the slider skips across the face of the teeth making a wonderful grinding sound. Eventually the damage is so bad that it won't shift into the gear without a double clutch or a very slow shift.
