3rd gen to 4th gen rear end What do I need to look 4

I want to put a 4th gen rear end in my 3rd gen with disc brake's posi trac. When I go to the wreaker what do I look for. What year,model,vin ect. If someone can help me out please.

Axle/Gears: 3.73, 3.90, 4.88, 3.55, 3.54, 7.00
With 4th gens it really doesn't matter. All the rears a 7.625" 10-bolts with 28-spline axels. Your best bet is to pull the cover and determine the gear ratio and whether or not it has a posi. This is the only way to really be sure what gears it has and if it has a posi. The option codes tell you what the car had from the factory, but someone may have swapped the gears for a better set, installed a posi in what was once an open rear, or broken the original rear and just swapped in a peg leg rear with a different gear ratio to get the car back on the road. Taking a peak is the only way to be sure.
