Flywheel for 383/T56

Im putting togeather an externaly balanced 383, that has the older 2 piece rear main seal, and im going to be bolting up a T56 out of an 96 LT1 camaro. What kind of flywheel should i look for? Is there a custom one i have to use?

I used an aluminuim one from fidanza....you have to install a balance plate for a external balanced 383 or 400... you could also use a steel flywheel from centerforce....which is already balanced for 383/400

So any fly wheel will work as long as its balanced correctly and has the right tooth count? So would one from a T-5 work for a T56? Is the only difference between the 1 peice seal and 2 peice just the balance, one being internal and one being external on the 350?

no it has to be designed for a t-56 and for a 2-piece rear seal...

I'm in the same situation as you. The best setup I have seen for durability and some headache relief is the Weir bellhousing. You can run any flywheel/clutch you choose, so long as it has the 26 spline disc for the T56.

I plan to get this setup in my car sometime in the next few months, and I'll definately snap a few pics and post the info on the board when I do. The T56 is probably the most durable manual GM transmission ever, lots of guys running in the 10's on a stocker. I'm stoked to get mine going, can't wait to bang through the gears like a maniac.
