Tpi Transmission?
Does anyone have a TPI transmission in their ride? How would you rate it's performance? Do you think It's holding up pretty well?

Here is my story. I purchased a 700R4 built by TPI. It was supposedly built to handle 600HP. I put 265 miles of street driving on it to make sure it could hold up. And it did so very nicely. Then I went to the track. Long story short- there was a cracking noise in the transition from 2nd to 3rd. Fearing the worst, I limped it back home gently and pulled the pan down to find planetary shims in the pan & filter. I took the trans to a local repair shop who disassembled it and told me the trans. could not have been built to hold 600 HP, because there were ALL STOCK brown clutches in it and NO aftermarket parts at all. They didn't even use 5 pinion planetaries. No hardened input shaft, no Beast Sunshell....In fact, several parts were used like the valve body from 1982 (most undesired), and worn out like the TV plunger and sleeve and the 1-2 accumulator spring. These parts wouldn't wear out in this short of time. I'm just stating my story. I don't make 600HP, I don't spray, & I didn't even have slicks on. I'm just posting these facts as words of advice. Be informed about your purchases, and deal with local people you know and trust! Peace out!
