do i need to have a different driveshaft or crossmember, will the tranny fit the tunnel without major modification to the body ?

for the linkage, i can work something out, i'm a machinist.

 

Which transmission is it? Muncie M20/21/22? Borg-Warner T10? Saginaw? All of them are about the same length, so the driveshaft for one will work for the others, but your stock driveshaft isn't going to be the right length. Spohn I beleive makes a crossmember for the 4 speeds, or you could make one. Not sure if the 82 4 speed crossmember will bolt up in your car (never seen one), but it probably will. The 82 4 speed driveshaft should work also. Fitting in the tunnel should be no problem, all the 4 speeds are fairly compact (compared to modern 6 speeds and aftermarket 5 and 6 speeds at least).

Driveshaft will need to be lengthened.Longer than a T5/700R4 shaft.

It will fit in the tunnel just fine.Crossmember is different but you should be able to mod T5/700R4 x-member to work.
