28 spline and spider gear
hello axle specialist,
My spider gears are worn out and one of my
axles splines is also worn down, I think this is what
is causing my wheel to wobble a bit.
my question is
Can I use spider gears for the 28 spline axle
and swap out my old spider gears which are for
26 splines axles?
If I could do that then I could upgrade to 28 spline axle.

Yes and no. The 28 spline spider gears will easily fit in where the 26 spline spider gears are however the hole that the axle goes through in the carrier probably isn't big enough to allow the 28 spline axle through.
I tried this years ago. I was able to find a carrier that used 28 spline axles to fix the problem. The only other option is to have the hole machined out large enough to let the axles through.

Thanks for that info
To bad that would of been cool if it worked.
IF I ever get my hands on a 28 spline axle Ill try
it out.

I was using aftermarket 28 spline axles. I doubt a factory 28 spline axle would have worked either.

Whats wierd is if you can get 28 spline pinion side gear
in the carrier one would figure that you could slip in that
axle..
just a thought

The outside hole of the housing is slightly bigger. I think the 26 spline housing has a 1" hole and a 28 spline housing has a 1-1/16" hole. The spider gears are on the inside and don't care about the hole that the axle goes through. GM just changed the casting slightly when they upgraded to 28 spline axles.
