maybe you could try to find a used tranny- post a Parts Wanted Ad on the classified boards and check your junkyards. If you can find a good used one for cheap, they're not that hard to install.

check the fluid. if its full drain it and add a few qt of lucas tranny fluid. its worth a shot and its done wonders for me. ofcorse this isnt a solution just a way to post pone the problem. you can save money on the rebuild by removing the tranny yourself. trannies in the junk yards around here go for $300 id get it rebuilt for the 500 but thats me.

dont let them put it back in. make sure you get all the bolts but if they take it out that less work you have to do when you find a cheap tranny. samething happened to my sisters volvo. started slipping brought it to a shop they said we needed a rebuild. we gave them 300 towed the car out of the shop. bought a tranny at the junkyard and installed total 550 including paying the shop to remove and diagnose. that will be the last time i go to a tranny shop. live and learn

I thought slipping was a result of a bad clutch?

sliping is loss of friction of clutches or band. low fluid will cuase slipping and worn clutches will to. low pressure from a broken spring may slipping. a leaking apply piston. to many things can cause a slipping tranny. lucas trany fluid is thick and will help but not cure a tranny. i was just saying it so he could get some extra miles out of it.

Alright dude.
The transmission is so easy to replace. I never did it before and with help of my friend we took out the 700r4 out in like 30mins. That is learning what to take out and how and all that crap. Get a friend that knows what he is doing, or two!?!? Than either get some directions or a book, of how to remove and put in, and go to town.

I am a poor college student, and I know what you're talking about. I am sure you can get a good used tranny, especially 700r4, for little to no money. I can get one for pretty cheap, and at this point in time a junkyard is your friend.
Good luck.
