The reason no one has answered, is because evidently all of the old-timers that used to be here and had the answers to stuff like this (Vader, RB83L69, ede for example) must have all got tired of all the crap and arguing and cheapness, and can't be bothered helping people out with the truth any more. And the people that are here now don't have the knowledge or experience that those guys did.

But, I'll tell you what little I know; and since it's the truth, I fully expect an argument from somebody that doesn't know their a$$ from their elbows.

There are 2 different models of posi carriers that GM used in the 7.5" rear.

One is the Eaton Gov-Lock, which you can spot by having little weights visible in the "window" in the carrier. That kind is total garbage. If you have one of those, throw it in the trash even if it doesn't need rebuilding, and get something else. They also come in S-10 trucks, and the people with those, complain constantly about tearing them to powder... with a 2.8 motor.

The other model is made by Auburn. That one has nothing visible in the carrier except the cross pin and gears, and some springs and a plate. That company no longer supports their product. You can get some of the parts from them; the springs, and the spring plate maybe. But I don't think they'll sel you the clutches. You can call them, their phone # is on their web site www.auburn.com I think you'll find you're out of luck there too, and if it really does need a rebuild, it is trash too.

GM has long since discontinued the parts.

If you decide to replace it, the one to get is the Eaton high-perf unit. Don't get the current Auburn; they are notorious for failing in strange unrepairable ways.

The auburn type came in 4th gen z28 and SS models. if you can find one wrecked with decently low miles you can use it in yours granted you know how to switch every thing out because the axles in a 4g are a different spline from those in a 3g. i just took mine out of my camaro. after a bunch of miles though they tend to ware out so be warry of high mile z ans ss's
