1-2 broken accumulator spring

Recently bought 91GTA had real hard shifts from 1 - 2 under very light acceleration only when cold. When warmed up it seems fine. Adjusted TV cable via the usual method but it didn't cure it. Ajusting the cable housing a few clicks further smoothens it out but makes the car feel slughish and I don't think thats right.

Upon searching I discovered it may be a broken accumulator spring for 1 - 2 and hides somewhere in the valve body. Where could I find this? A good explanation or pic would be great. I am not well versed in tranny internals. Wish I had known before I changed the fluid/filter. Oh well, get to make another mess with tranny fluid.

Drop the pan. in the rear pass side area you will see a round cover with 3 bolts holding it on. 1 long and 2 short. Remove these and the housing will come out. The spring is inside. If the seperator plate is baly damaged, you will have to drop the valve body to change it. If you are lucky, the housing will not tear the gasket. If so, you will have to change it.

Thank you sir!

Will get to it some time this week and report back on how I made out. Will take pics too, might come in handy for someone else.

There is also a plate available that you can put behind the accumulator housing as a quick fix if the seperator plate is damaged. I think its called a seperator plate saver.
