TH350 full manual valve body reverse pattern problems

Friend of mine is having problems with his Hughes full manual valve body. He's gotten 2 units now from the factory that have no reverse gear. You can rev the engine to the moon and the rear wheels hardly twitch. All the forward gears shift perfect and do not slip. The valve body has been installed both times by a trans shop that has a good rep but they also don't know what's up. Anyone here run into the same problem or might have some input on to what's going on?

Does the valve body have a transbrake?

No transbrake. While my friend was waiting for a second valve body the trans guy put in his old stocker unit which did have reverse working. Soon as the new valve body went in today (which he said was different from the first one) he once again had no reverse but other gears were fine.

Well, as it turns out it was Hughes' bad documentation with the valve body. In the (partial) instructions they say to only use one thing from the stocker valve body. Turns out you also need the modulator valve too, there's a plug that fills the hole and holds this valve in place. My friend called Hughes up today and asked them about it, they didn't even know at first. So all in all, it was just one little thing keeping the car from going into reverse. Everything is working perfect now and he can go racing again hehe.
