guess what guys,my 700r4 keeps giving me surprises,now im having a loud lifter-like sound coming from the tranny when she goes hot,it goes out the moment i slip into neutral or into park,or if im in drive if lift the foot of the brake to let the car move a little bit forward(this i do when at a stoplight to avoid the embarrasment).
do you have any ideas of what could it be?

also, a 700r4 from an 91' 4.3 astro can be installed in a v8 thirdgen? i may have the chance to get one cheap but im not sure if it fits.

What do you mean "lifter-like"? A jet-engine type whine perhaps?

 

no,i mean like an oil lifter,like a loud tack-tack whenever im driving, it goes out when i slip it into n. or p.

 

Check the plastic cover that goes over the converter and flywheel, it can rub and make some noise if it is out of place.

EDIT- - Just saw you wrote "when it gets hot" sorry, could be something internal for sure, I would check the cover for the heck of it still.

 

I had my lifter-like clicking noise checked by a friend that works at AAMCO and he said that it had cracked retainers or clips. I have a 1992 Z that is all original with 65,000 miles. He said it may run for a short time or maybe a long time before it finally breaks. When it breaks the trans will not move the car. He gave me an estimate of around $1400 to repair it. That includes a new torque converter, all new seals, and a fluid change. My noise is louder when in Park or Neutral and the car not moving. The noise increases as the rpm's increase and decreases as the rpm's decreases.

i just rebuilt my tranny and i have a whine when it gets hot too, execpt mine sounds like the jet engine wine kind of, and i have no 3-4 shift, can anyone help me, maybe we have the same problems
