Mr. Trans. Has cost me 2000 so far and car still doesn't move!!!
I am so fustrated... I just needed to vent/ask for avice. Brought it to Mister Transmission in Sault Ste. Mariie, Ontario and I asked told them that if it would be under 2000 dollars to fix my transmission to do so. They laughed and said "700R4 rebuild would never cost 2000" so they rebuilt it in 2 days. billed me 2000. I wasn't pleased at all. Plus they over filled the tranny and the 2/4 band was dragging in 3rd. Told them about it, they told me to drive it some more. So i headed home about 1000km's away and 3rd still acted up. I ended up shifting it manually to try and free up something sticking or get rid of air. Finally 3rd worked great but i lost second but had fourth. Now it is in timmins on warranty work and the guy tells me that there a few defects from the guys in the soo. Fixed some things they shouldn't have and forgot some things they should have done. So now I have had my car there over a week and they keep throwing parts at it. Find out today that the warranty only covers the parts that they replaced.
So now i have a 2500+ dollar transmission that doesn't work and well i don't know what to do. I thought that when a transmission shop gives me back my car they are guarenteeing that EVERYTHING will work not just the parts they put in. That is such
. Any ideas on what to do....?

Yeah I agree. A rebuild means "all wear parts" are replaced. Not just the ones that are toast. Any hard parts that were broken should have also been replaced at the time. Theres no reason a rebuilt trans should fail immediatly.
Just some friendly advice. Dont tell a shop how much you want to spend. Get a few quotes on the job and then you only have to pay what they quoted. Plus or minus a small percentage depending on where you live.

. Any ideas on what to do....? Hi All,
This just proves that there are lot of service shops out there that will take your buck and give you absolutly nothing back in return. Best advice I can give is shop around for a good shop before you drop the bucks.
Over the years I have been ripped many times by service shops and then I have gotten really good service at low prices from a very few. I have about 30 years of experiance in dealing with differanct service shops.
In these 30 years, I have found only one body shop(Ford Dealer in Elizabeth City, NC), one dealer(Performance Chevy in Elizabeth City, NC), one transmission shop (AAMCO, Military Highway in Norfolk Va), and one gereral repair place that has given me my moneys worlth. I have had my 82 Firebird for almost 24 years!

There's a difference between a "repaired" transmission and a "rebuilt" transmission. I would have been suspicious as soon as they said a 700R4 rebuild would never cost $2000, that sounds a lot more like a repair.

The receipt says remove replace and verhaul. But the main problem is there lack of knowledge and service. They told me that upon dissambley that there were going to phone me and give me a free quote (which is franchise policy) which they never so i ended up phoning them and going in to see it. They had already bought new parts for it (some of which i had told them i have with me) and were putting it back together. Then told me they would phone me when they were done, which they did not. Upon first driving it, it started smoking. They had overfilled the transmisson and it was leaking out the vent. I had to tell them what the problem was because they thought it was the rearmain seal. Obviously they can't read a dipstick. I left instructions to change the seperator plate cause i had put some grooves in it putting in the transgo kit(which they did not and if even i had not told them it was obvious it should have been changed). Told them to check to make sure i put the kit in right which they did not and they even changed out parts of the kit for stock parts
I told them when i first drove it that third gear was not working roperly. Found out that the 2-4 band was being partially engaged in 3rd. They told me to drive it and it should get better. Later i find out that auto trannys have like a 10km break in period. THey pinched a couple seals, put the governer in too loose, had the front stator bushing not completely in place. The list goes on. These are trained pro's with 10 plus years exp. each. But I have called the better business bureau, the head office of Mr. T. Which by the way told me the valve bod is not part of the transmission. And am trying to talk to a lawyer. I will keep you posted. Anyone else with similar experiences? Any advice, comments?
Thanks ,
Greg

That sucks, and it goes to show that someone can "work on" these trannies, but you really need someone who specializes in them. Transmission Center builds a ton of trannies including 700R4/2004R's but I would NEVER buy one fromt hem, they think it's a big game and they dont specialize in any trannies, they just build anything. Bowtie Overdrives specializes in ONLY these 2 trannies. There are a lot of shops who know what they are doing, but you need to research and ask them questions. A new 4L60E is about 2K, a 700R4 max should cost $1600 and that is for serious useage. Sucks that you got taken, i'd kick their *** then sue them.
Also, there is no "break in" period, BUT the clutches will wear a bit the first time it's ran, so you shouldnt really get on it. Just pretend there is a break in period, that is what I do. Be nice to it. Testing trannies before they are sold, they are taken to 5500 and checked for 2-1, 3-2, 3-1, 4-3, 4-2 and 4-1 down shifts, so you be the judge.
