Maybe your thinking about your pilot bearing. The throwout bearing just slides on the input shaft. The pilot bearing goes in the crankshaft. If your talking about the pilot bearing then yest you have to remove the clutch to replace it.

Pilot bearing yes the clutch needs to be takin off the flywheel . I gess you could try but not worth trying to dig throgh it . The throwout bearing can be installed without the clutch being removed . The part that the shiftfork goes onto goes to the back , the bearing side gose up front torwrds the motor . Good idea to replace both while you are there . You can get a clutch kit with everything in it , if that is in ? too . Fairly cheep for a decent one good luck .

Hey I got an 87 Trans Am and I went to jail in january so it sat for five months and my dad put it in his garage.....im out nowand went to move it the other day and he said it had reverse no problem when he brought it to his house and now the carcwont move when shifted in reverse. U can hear the yranny shifting through gears and it moves in drive.....the transmission fluid is low....Can that cause it to have no reverse?

Always a good idea to fill things with the right amount of fluid.
Start there and see where it takes you.
