Measuring transmission output yoke drive angle?

I am in the process of removing my T10 4 speed and swapping in a T56.I need to make a new crossmember for the car to mount the T56 and clear the 3" y pipe I am also making for my SLP headers.I have found old posts with pics to give me ideas of what I am in for.The fabrication is not an issue, and I own a MIG and can weld so those areas are covered. My concern right now is how/where do I measure transmission output yoke drive angle?I want to be able to get this recorded so that I can duplicate it on the T56 when I start making the crossmember.Do I just place an angle finder on the rear of the tailshaft (where the yoke slides in and the seal is located)and record that angle?Or is it more involved?I would greatly appreciate and explanation on this subject!!!

Pull the slip yoke off and put an angle finder on the end of the output shaft. Add/subtract 90 degrees.

How do I determine to add or subtract?

Depends what angle you get. Since the angle is probably pointed slightly downward, you can calculate a number below a horizontal level. Assuming zero degrees is at the front of the car, 90* will be straight up and 180 will be at the rear. If you put an angle finder on the shaft and get 95*, subtracting 90* will give a 5* down angle.

If zero is at the top and putting an angle finder on the shaft shows 5* then that's the angle.

It all depends on what angle you start with and where your reference is.

Thanks Stephen!Much appreciation!

That clarified it for me..tranny is out and angle has been recorded for when T56 goes in and new crossmember is made!

Ok so I came up with -5.5 to -6 degrees on my old T10 trans.

Now that I am actually putting the T56 in I find if I raise it up to try and achieve that same -5.5 to -6 degrees it hits the tunnel where the trans bolts to the bell.I would rather not beat on the tunnel with a bfh to make it fit so could I set it to -6.5 to -7 degrees and then set the rearend yoke angle accordingly since I have an adjustable torque arm and be ok?I would then set the required pinion angle from there.Does this sound right and it would not throw anything out of whack in the drivetrain?
