Iroc Tranny

Hello, Im new here and am not familiar with these cars at all.
A friend of mine is selling an Automatic 87 5.7 Iroc with a blown tranny.
He says other than the tranny its in good running condition.

I was wondering if the RS and the Iroc have the same tranny?
If they are not the same can you guys help me out by telling me which trannies are compatible with this car. ( I was thinking any 88-92 irock/rs/transam/firebird?)

I was also wondering if the 5.7 requires premium gas?

I might have many other questions along the way... I'll try to do some research before I post

I'll keep you guys updated if I end up buying it or not.

-Thanks

with minor differance any auto trans would be the same and bolt in from a v8 thirdgen f body. i doubt you need anything but 87, but you need to see what your engine likes and doesn't ping on.

you should let us know what trans is in the car so we can let you know specifically what trannies are a direct swap in

but almost any tranny can fit if you hvae the right parts, whether stock or aftermarket

good luck

and welcome to the forum

How can I tell which tranny it has? I'm almost possitive it has the stock one. All I know is that it is a 87 z28 5.7 TPI.

All the transmissions for the V8 f-body's are the same externally. 82-84 had the crappy version due to its poor pump and weak internals. 85-87 were ok years but in 89 GM upgraded the pump and several other internal pieces to make it a physically stronger trans. Then, in 94 the internals went electronic but the case is exactly the same, bolt pattern speaking. Truck transmisisons will also work but then you get into the tailshaft length and the TCC pressure switch on trucks differed from year to year.

Ok well I just got back from talking to the guy that owns the camaro, we agreed on a good price. So if all goes well, I'm going to several junk yards tomorrow morning to find a tranny for this beast.

Can you guys tell me what sockets I will need (for removing the tranny)?

Also to remove the seats do they use the torx socket? If you guys can tell me the size that would be great.

I will post up pics asap
