Why did Gm switch from 7.5 to 7.625 Rear End
Hello, I've obtained from the junkyard, a 7.625" 10 bolt rear end w/ limited slip and .308 gears...
This will be replacing my ill .273 open 7.5" rear end...
Why did GM increase from 7.5" to 7.625" ??? Did they find the 7.5's were too cheap and weak, and had to add some strength back in???
I'm not making the kind of power that would break either one, just curious...
Thanks!

It probably had nothing to do with strength, since they're identical in everything except actual gear size and the gears aren't the weakest part.
