ok So i'm don't have a clue when it comes to transmissions. I have a 92 Camaro RS 305TBI original automatic tranny. My question is when i hit the gas i get this strange thump just once and then its gone, but if i slowly hit the gas then there is no noise. I believe i might have knocked a tooth of one of the tranny gears. I want to switch to a Manual transmission that will work with a 350 (which i will change probably around the same time) What transmission should i get? I know a little about engines and all that just not about transmissions. So any help would be thankful.

Chech the trans mount before doing anything else.

they tend to be okay when your lite on the gas, when u whack it or launch the car is when it bounces the torque arm off the bottom of the car.

Check the dumb stuff first

Most definitely your tranny mount, you can check it without raising the car on jacks or anything, if you have a flashlight, just look right behind the tranny shaft (the big long metal plate) and you should see the mount...If the mount appears to be worn or cracked, then it has most likely seperated. If this is the case, get a poly mount they do wonders and make the car run alot smoother than stock mounts...

Also motor mounts will do this - you hit the gas and the torque throws the motor to one side, usually making a thunk.
