New 7oor4 Not Acting Right Please Help
I am not ready to dog on the company yet but I have some concerns with this new transmission.
When in the overdrive position the tranny shifts pretty good fairly smooth. The problem is when I select the gears my self or use 3rd. I have a real distinctive clunk with a space in between when it shifts up or down from 2-3 3-2. I am trying to find out as much as possible about this condition before I call them back on this issue so they do not blow too much smoke up my rear. It also has a condition where it does not always like to hold 2nd. Sometimes when manually shifting into second it will either not go or act like it hit neutral, if I stab the pedal it will usually go but that aint right. I would just yank it out right now but the shipping cost back and forth are going to kill me ( I believe this is inevitable anyway) I just don’t want to do it yet. Is anyone here familiar enough with these trannys enough to know what may be going on? All of the pressures were checked when it was installed and were good to go.
ANY INFO WILL BE APPRECIATED

Two things: 1. You should be carefull when talking to the company because if they know you were manually shifting the tranny they might void any necessary repaires/warranties. 2. From what I have been told you should not be manually shifting anyway. When you are between gears the line preasure will drop and it will slow your shift. In my opinion for best performance and reliability you should always keep the tranny in overdrive.

Check your warranty. They may pay a local shop to fix it rather than ship it back. It sounds like it could be a problem with the valve body. Shifting a 700R4 manually wont hurt it, especially if you have a shift kit installed.
heh. In the hell are you talking about. Manually shifting is bad? Psh. higher the rpm = higher the line pressure. higher line pressure allows for less slipping when each reaction member is applied. I.e. one way clutch, clutch pack or a friction band. more line pressure means faster firmer reactions.
Why do you think the vette servo makes a difference? the surface area is greater allowing more force to be distributed over the servo.

anyways. I think this might be more of a linkage problem, and the clunk you hear might be caused by someone leaving out the anti-clunk spring when they rebuilt it ..*yes, im being serious. it has an anti clunk spring"
