speed sensor question
ok, my friend just bought a 90 iroc with a 350 tpi, and we all know those only came with a 700r4, well his is converted over to a 5spd from a 305. but here's the catch, the tranny is from an 87, and his speedo doesnt work, was that year cable driven or is it electronic? is there a conversion kit or any remedy to the problem he is having?

From what I've gathered from other articles on here, the 700R4 switched from cable drive to electronic in '87 on Firebirds and in '90 on Camaros.
I'm currently having a similar problem with my trannies. I'm swapping a 700 from a '90 GTA into an '89 RS. The RS has a cable driven speedo and the GTA tranny has the electronic VSS mounted on it. As far as I can tell, I need to swap in a set of drive and driven gears for the cable driven speedo.
I have a few older 700's with cable drive setups and I tried replacing the electronic sending unit with the cable driven unit, but the gears wouldn't mesh.
Nobody wants to respond to my posts either...
