I have been told by several people that a good (expensive) converter is well worth the money.
I recently bought an Edge racing converter. (1-888-350-EDGE or www.edgeracingconverters.com ) I havent even put it in yet. It looks like a very nice piece. They are pretty popular with the B-Body crowd. It wasnt as expensive as a PI Vigilante (very good as well). Wish I had it in so I could tell you if it was what it is cracked up to be.
Call Edge and talk to a guy named Andre. All of the Edge converters are custom built. You give them a ton of specs about your car and what you want to accomplish and they build a converter for you. No part numbers. Build time is only about 4-7 business days.
They are probably more expensive than a B&M, but are also custom built. IIRC, mine was about $525. I was happy, I got the converter, a TransGO kit for my 4L60E, and a TruCool cooler for less than a PI Vigilante converter by itself. I recommend giving them a call even if you dont go with them. Andre seems pretty knowledgable and will answer your questions.
