Trans swap question
Whats the diff in a T-5 from a 3rd gen vs a 4th gen v6 5 spd?
T-5s are hard to come by here, but we got plenty of smashed v6 4th gens
Broke the trans in my 2.8 and looking for a replacement for my beater
3.4 v6 is 60 degree and 3.8 is 90 degree, bellhousing lineup?
S-10 5 spd wont work cuz the tailshaft is different and I dont have a spare to swap to it

A 3rd gen T5 will work behind a V8, a 4th gen T5 won't. The trans mounting pattern is totally different, so you can't bolt it to anything other than a 4th gen V6 bellhousing from a 3.8.
V6-60 and V6-90 bellhousings are totally different.

Im not swapping auto to manual, Im replacing a 5 spd for another 5 spd
Asking if the 4th gen 5 spd will fit inplace of my T-5 and mount to my bellhousing

Who said anything about swapping auto to manual?
It won't work, or I'd be using 4th gen T5s for cores for 3rd gens. A 4th gen T5 won't bolt up to anything but a 4th gen 3.8 V6 bellhousing. A 4th gen T5 can only be used behind a 3.8 V6 because the rear face of the trans where it mounts to the bellhousing has a different pattern than a regular T5. GM built a dedicated bellhousing for the 3.8 V6 and had Borg/Warner, now Tremec, make a dedicated T5 for use with the bellhousing. Bottom line, if you've got a 4th gen T5 it won't do you any good without a 4th gen 3.8 V6 car to put it in.

Yes, I sort of forgot about the 3.4. If the trans is from a 4th gen it's only going to work in a 4th gen.

if you have access to to all of those parts, you could do a 3.8 swap with the 5spd from the 4th gen. swap out the motor and then you could use the 4th gen trans.
