T5 to a 350turbo

Im trying to help a friend of my son who has bought a well used 1987 camaro. It came with a v6 5 speed and they are trying now to install a 305 v8 with a turbo 350 trans. What trans mount does it need or will one from a 4 speed auto work? Also does anyone know the new length that the drive shaft will have to be cut to? They have already removed both the trans and motor and reinstalled the v8 set up but it is at a stand still til we can find out more info. This young man is 16 and a very limited budget.

I know you'll need the mount from an 82-83 3 speed auto f-body, the ones with the TH-200. The approximate difference in driveshaft length is about 2 to 2.5" I believe. I did the opposite of your swap (TH-200/350 -> 700-R4) in my Cutlass, and I had get my driveshaft cut about 2 inches and had to modify my mount by cutting part of the tab off and drilling a hole 2 inches further back on it. Because of the fact that your mount will need the tab to extend 2 inches forward, I'm pretty sure you'll need a whole new mount . Don't worry though, the swap isn't nearly as bad as some make it out to be. I did the whole thing (including swapping a 350 SBC for a 307 SBO) with a buddy in about a week, and this was at a VERY relaxed pace. I think the only expense was about $50 to get my driveshaft cut. You're probably looking at paying more, as you have to get a new mount AND driveshaft (unless they can somehow extend driveshafts....).

In any case, good luck with the swap. My info may not be that relevant, as a G-body is different in many ways to an F-body.

you'll also need a mount for your torque arm unless you make one.B&m or hurst sells these kits. i used a 700r4 crossmember and driveshaft with a longtailshaft th-350 so ididn't have to get it cut. 82-83 camaros came with the right length driveshaft so you don't have to get one cut

As mentioned above, you'll need a conversion kit to connect the torque arm and an adaptor plate for the tranny mount since the TH350 needs a mount 2" forward from where the 700R4 sits.

As for the driveshaft, if you have a long tail shaft TH350, 9" long, you can use the stock 700R4 driveshaft. If you have a short tail shaft TH350, 6" long, you need the longer driveshaft from an early third gen that came with the TH200 3 speed tranny.
