new tires hit the rubber stopper for rear end

i bought new tires for my car 255-50-r16. the ones i have on the car now are 245-55-16s i think. i know that the new ones are just a bit wider than the old ones. when i went to get them installed today, i was told that the new tires would rub on the rubber stopper that prevents the rear end from bottoming out onto the frame. the wierd thing was that they said they would only hit the drivers side rubber stopper. when i looked at my car from behind the tires measure the same distance under the wheel wells compared to the outside of the car. is this common? will i need wheel spacers to fix this>? and if so where is a good place to get them?

thanks

if the tire wont rub on anything else besides the stopper, and the rear is centered when at rest, then you can just take a grinder and remove the side from the stopper.... giving you more clearance.

Types of modifications for tire clearance.

Did you get these new tires mounted on your original rims or did they come with rims. Try swapping the tire from side to side to see if they fit better. Maybe you have one rim with a different backspace than the other. Third gen diffs are not perfectly centered under the car. They're actually pushed to the passenger side slightly to move the pinion over because the engine tranny is sitting slightly to the passenger side to clear the steering column.

the rear also gets pushed over further if the car has been powered or anything is bent in the rear underneath.

Noticed your in chicago area.

We got our own whole board here under regionals and NW IN/Chicago Suburbs.

Check it out

later
