t56~700r>t5

Exact weights, no. But I do remember the t56 seemed to weigh just as much as the 700 I pulled out.

This came off of the tech data portion of tgo.

Differential Weights of Accessories
Code Item Weight

MD8 Automatic Trans 101.9 (with 305 & 350)

I have seen it listed several places that the t5 is 100 lbs.

So 100 + 101.9 = around 200 lbs.

Keep in mind this is just a guestimate.

I could be wrong but I kind of find that hard to believe. I'm a freaking wimp and I lugged that thing below my bird before I swapped it completly out...

I'd like to see proven weights..

Got that info off the net. Double checked it & found GM lists the shipping weight of a MD8 at 180lbs. If ya don't believe that I can weight the one sitting on the floor of my garage! All I know for sure is they are heavy ****'s.

MythBuster Segment 700R4 Weight

Well the ol' Health-o-meter says 140 lbs. This without fluid or converter. Take it for what it's worth.

How about the t5 weight?

How about the T5 weight? Is it 75 or 100? I heard it was closer to 100lbs (95 lbs to be exact).

A guy at the UPS Store said that a T5 tranny would have to be shipped freight. Is he full of BS? Can't I just stick the T5 in a box and just say "here ya go..."?

Would $100 - $125 sound right for shipping from S.A. Texas(78249) to Denver CO (80227)?

Thanks

T5 is less than 85lbs dry. I shipped my old one out and that is what it weighed in the box with packing materials.
I had it boxed and shipped from UPS. they put it in a box, used that expanding foam stuff and away it went.

Its gotta be closer to 75lbs. I am a pretty small guy(5'10"/130lbs.), I've never worked out or anything like that, and I had no problem pulling my T5 out myself when I did my clutch. (I used a trans jack to hold it up while removing the bolts, but I took it off the trans jack and set it on the bench with no problems.) I'd say its right around 75lbs.

Thanks guys, that sounds about right. I placed it on a scale and read it at about 75lbs. Just wanted to make sure.

The T56 by itself weighs about 125. with the clutch/flywheel/PP/fluids, I would think it weighs about the same as a 700R4 with converter and fluid, about 175lbs or more.

My aftermarket t56 weighs 125 pounds on my Walmart scale.

I picked up a 700r4 from a junkyard it also weighed 125 pounds.

I think the 143 you speak of is with the box.

LS! T56

Yes, the 143 # was with the box, but it was a cardboard box, with foam and stretch wrap around the tranny. Packing may have weighed 3 #. OH yeah, it also had the hydraulic throw out bearing - another pound?
