I assume you mean an LS1 into a thirdgen, will it work with a 700r4? I don't see why not. The 4L60E is electronically controlled versus the 700r4 is hydraulicly operated (throttle valve cable). You'd need to fabricate something on the linkage for the TV detent to work properly... And I have no idea if the TCC lockup is the same signal (but i'd assume so) in both of these transmissions.

That's just my guess.

Egh, your better off just buying the engine with the transmission already in. Honestly, if you plan on modding the LS1 the 700R4 wouldn't hold up, infact, I am just pulling things outta my *** here but they do have a certain limit and the engine's power could cause the 700R4 to wear down alot faster. I wouldn't recommend it. the 4L60E is just much more advanced than the 700R4...it was built to take a beating, it was built for a high performance engine, it was built to last long as well.

If you shop around you can score an engine/tranny combo deal for cheap. Ebay has a few stores that sell them together at a decent price.

its been done. Go search around in the LTX and LSX swap forum in the Engine Swap forum.

I wouldn't do it unless your 700R4 is rebuilt.
