Well like the title says...it just started knocking about a week ago while being in reverse. It is almost like a grinding/knocking(mixture of the two) noise coming from the front of the tranny or back of the engine, somewhere in that position from the cab...haven't gotten underneath it yet to see what's up. The tranny doesn't do this while in its forward gears though. Its weird b/c its never done that until a week ago and I am not hard on it at all. Any input would be great guys/gals!! Thanks!!

 

first thing I would check is the torque converter bolts and the right (passenger side) engine mount.

 

Ok....I will check the engine mount tomm...got to pull the header off anyway. And I will check on the torque converter bolts I reckon tomm as well.

Ok....checked the motor mounts...look good.....checked bolt and bellhousing...looks fine...repositioned the 3 bolt header flange....priceless....no more knocking now!! Did find out that my rear main seal is leaking though!! Oh well....thanks for the help.

 

I realize that this is a 16 year old thread, but I'm having what sounds like the same issue. To clarify, 3 bolt header flange is your exhaust header, right? What was it hitting?
