Strange trans noise

I was a light and all of a sudden the trans started to make a loud whining noise,I put it neutral and it went away.Put it back in OD and it comes back.Any suggestions?Guess I have to pull the pan and take a look.

Could be the pump going away..

Your problem could be one of many things. Sounds like it is rebuild time regardless.
